The Power of Two - Laetitia van Schalkwyk

I often hear people say that marriage is hard work.

But “work” reminds me of law and since Jesus set us free from law, I do not agree with this statement.

You see, when you are in Christ, you have a new identity.

And when you live from this identity, and manifest Christ, it comes naturally.

My focus, and motivation is therefor not on my husband, but on Christ in me. The same with him, my husband. He also lives from his new identity, Christ in him.

And whenever I am upset about something, I will always first go to Yahweh.

On a more practical note:  I go and sit in a chair and meditate. I concentrate on my breathing and go into myself and engage Him, Face to Face inside me.

It is there where I find peace again, by engaging peace.

When we disagree about something, we never raise our voices, we first engage with peace inside us and then we will sit and talk about it because both of us understand the power of our words. With our words, we create, we speak life or death, and power is in the tongue.

God is ONE! Nothing compares to Him, and nothing can compete with Him. He is sovereign.

When you look at the number 2 though, 2 is the introduction of many.

Plural starts with 2.

It is the first number that represents “many.”

The presence of two opens the possibility for relationship.

So, if God is ONE, who is He going to have relationship with?

So, he created everything that exists so that He can have relationship with us.

That was His desire.

There are two primary forces.

For instance:   A battery.

To create power, you need a positive and a negative.

To produce power, the two must work together. Without one another, there will be no power.

Male & Female is therefor also ONE.

Genesis 1:26-27

New King James Version

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [a]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

God made them male & female. Man was in God and from God. Man and woman was already in man.

Genesis 1:28

New King James Version

28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that [a]moves on the earth.”

There is blessing in two.

When a man and a woman come together, they partner with God in creating new life.

As God by creation made two of one, so again by marriage He made one of two.

Number 2 is also opposing forces in the universe:

For instance:

In the natural:

Up – Down

Left – Right

Day – Night

Truth – Lies

Man – Woman

The same in the spirit:

Life – Death

Clean – Unclean

Blessings – Curses

Do – Do not

These are counterparts.

Two opposites create conflict.

Opposite’s “clash” – tend to cause division, cause breakdowns in relationships.

When it comes to decisions, you will normally have two to choose from.

The only way for two to become one, is to become a mirror image of each other.

What a person becomes, is by the choices they make.

Mirror image:

How does this look like?

We need to create what is in The Father’s heart.

Physical world must represent the spiritual world.

Earth must mirror heaven.

Jesus prayed in Matthew 6:10 NKJV

Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

The Passion Translation

Manifest your kingdom realm,

and cause your every purpose to be fulfilled on earth,

just as it is in heaven.

So, we are supposed to go in there, see what it looks like and establish what is in heaven, on earth.

Our bodies should mirror our spirit.

Our will should mirror God’s will.

Man & Woman should find a common course.

Look for partnership.

We are two individuals but with our own functions.

The man is the starter, the woman is the finisher.

We have seen how a man will hunt, drop the meat, and the woman will create a meal.

A man will buy a house – a woman will make a home.

A man gives his seed. A woman will produce a child.

The woman is an incubator. Whatever you give her, she will create.

If you give her your nonsense … she will most definitely respond to you in not such a wonderful way. Ha-ha!

When you find a common vision and work together and not against each other, you will find that you can work together without conflict.

But what are the common vision?

To have dominion and multiply.

How do we become one?

How do we find common vision?

Through covenant

Marriage is a covenant.

Covenant love means:

I do, even when you do not.

My promise does not depend on your actions.

I will, even when you will not.

A 50/50 marriage will produce nothing of what God intended. It will not illustrate what God intended.

Marriage is about the relentless pursuit of the person you committed your life to.

Covenant love says:

I am here with you, through the joy and pain, celebration, and sorrow, and that will never change.

Marriage is an ongoing, vivid illustration of how to love an imperfect person unconditionally … the same way Christ has loved us.

Love is a substance, therefor love has a frequency.

When two sounds agree, they create an exponential power.

May your marriage cause a Dunamis explosion!

The Greek word “Dunamis” in the Bible means “power, force or ability.”  Paul used the word in 2 Timothy when he wrote “for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control”. This Greek word “Dunamis” is from which the English words “dynamite” or “dynamic” stem. Paul wanted Timothy to know that God had given him the dynamite ability to stand strong in the faith and the dynamic skill to share that faith with others.

May you have “dynamite” faith.

And may God give you the dynamite ability to stand strong in your faith and the dynamic skill to share that faith with others.

And always remember:

As much as she needs love, he needs respect.

As much as she needs affection, he needs sexual fulfilment.

As much as she needs intimate conversation, he needs recreational companionship,

As much as she needs honesty and openness, he needs physical attractiveness.

As much as she needs financial support, he needs domestic support.

As much as she needs family commitment, he needs admiration.

A husband and wife are two whole individuals becoming one.

Not ½ + ½ = 1

You are 1 + 1 + 1 = 1

Man + Woman + God = Dunamis Explosion!

The man carries the vision. So, men! get your head in the clouds. You are the initiator, visionary.

The women are the finisher! With Christ in you, you are already fully equipped.

My husband has this chair in his study.

He often sits in this chair and meditate to get vision.

I bought this chair a beautiful pillow with a gift voucher we received as a wedding gift.

Why? Because I know the importance of the role of this chair in his life.

He is the starter. He carries the vision.

Whenever he sits in his chair, most of the time I will leave him alone and other times I just cannot help myself. I will go and sit on his lap.

He carries the vision, when he shares the vision, I will run with in to finish it.

Husbands and wives; You are both man and woman. Two individuals. Completely different from each other with different functions.

But One – A mirror image of Christ.

As an individual you also become a mirror image of Christ.

Imagine, being so one with the Father and coming to such a place of maturity where as Jesus, you can also say:

“Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father.”

Just something beautiful to end with:

The Hebrew word lee-SAH means “to marry.”  It comes from the root which means “to carry.”

The connection is beautiful – when a man takes a woman as his wife, he carries her and raises her to a new level of peace and wholesomeness, and they are both elevated to a higher purpose.

When you are ONE with Christ, a mirror image of Him, you are also elevated to a new level of peace and wholesomeness and elevated to a higher purpose.

The POWER of TWO is in BECOMING ONE!
