The Power of Two - Laetitia van Schalkwyk

Image
I often hear people say that marriage is hard work. But “work” reminds me of law and since Jesus set us free from law, I do not agree with this statement. You see, when you are in Christ, you have a new identity. And when you live from this identity, and manifest Christ, it comes naturally. My focus, and motivation is therefor not on my husband, but on Christ in me. The same with him, my husband. He also lives from his new identity, Christ in him. And whenever I am upset about something, I will always first go to Yahweh. On a more practical note:  I go and sit in a chair and meditate. I concentrate on my breathing and go into myself and engage Him, Face to Face inside me. It is there where I find peace again, by engaging peace. When we disagree about something, we never raise our voices, we first engage with peace inside us and then we will sit and talk about it because both of us understand the power of our words. With our words, we create, we speak life or death, and power is in ...

The Veil was torn - Laetitia van Schalkwyk

Image
Two months before my wedding, I was at my hairdresser deciding on different styles concerning my hair for the wedding. The next moment, the woman in the chair next to me said:   “Only remember, when it is your second wedding, when you enter, your veil is not supposed to cover your face”. I was dumbfounded. Not that I needed to, but I started explaining to her that although it is my second marriage, it is my fianc é ’s first marriage. What I did not tell her is that my fianc é and I already had a conversation about the veil, and it was his desire to experience a veil moment with me. She was still not convinced and carried on: “Before you do such a thing, first check with your pastor”. I left it at that because not only was I about to marry a Pastor but also the Pastor that was going to do the marriage confirmation, is a friend as well and I know he would say: “You are free to do as you please.   We are not under the law anymore”. This incident encourag...

Joy - Laetitia Zeeman

Image
I was at the car wash when someone made the comment: “You are most definitely not from this area, because you are laughing”. This comment inspired me to introduce you to the Spirit of Joy. On 25 April 2020, I was alone in my apartment in Reebok, Mossel Bay. Not only was it during the Covid-19 lock-down but it was also my birthday. For my birthday, I wanted to go down the Mossel Bay zip line, but things turned out completely different than planned. Instead of feeling sorry for myself being alone on my birthday, I immediately renewed my mind and instead of thinking that I am “locked down”, I decided to rather see it as “separated” and “hidden in the Beloved” – the Beloved is mine and I am His. I decided to share a video on Facebook, inviting family and friends to join me in a laughing meditation. Galatians 5 states that joy that overflows is one of the fruits produced by the Holy Spirit within you. The meaning of my name, Laetitia, is joy , because the Joy of the Lord is...

Inspired Singleness - Laetitia Zeeman

Image
I am inviting you to walk with me a few minutes.   Investigate something with me. Since being engaged after being single “again” for 16 years, I receive numerous phone calls and questions from single people asking me for advice. The purpose of this devotion is to inspire you as a single person. I want to start by saying: “Singleness is NOT a curse”. Being married is a calling. Being single is also a calling. And if you don’t treat it as such, you will never find happiness. You have to know who you are before you can truly get to know someone else. I never dated after getting divorced while my sons were still in my house, under my care.   I did not even go on a coffee date.   Not a single one. I treated “single parenthood” as a ministry, a calling and when people asked, I simply made a joke, saying: “Where on earth will I fit dating into my busy schedule”. And honestly?   I have no regrets.   I look at my grown-up sons and I am grateful...

Inspired Parenting - Laetitia Zeeman

Image
I am inviting you to walk with me a few minutes. After my husband left in 2006, I suddenly became a single mom for ten- and eight-year-old boys. After the divorce, I could not afford the maintenance on the house we were staying in anymore, so we had to sell the house and moved into a much smaller house. There were a lot of people helping that day.   Some were hanging curtains, packing out.   Some brought food, lots of food.   I will be forever grateful for the amazing support system God blessed me with. The first night, after everyone who helped went back to their own homes, my sons were busy unpacking their toys in their rooms when I prayed a silent prayer.   I was resting my forehead on my arms on top of the TV cabinet when I said: “Lord, how on earth am I going to raise two boys alone?   I need a hug tonight”. I stepped three steps back and fell on the couch.   The next moment I felt the arms of my eight-year-old, hugging me around my ...

The Frequency of Your Words - Laetitia Zeeman

Image
I recently relocated to Klerksdorp from Mossel Bay and what saddens me, is how negative people respond upon hearing that I moved here from Mossel Bay. I often get responses like: “What on earth are you doing in this terrible place?” “Why not rather go back to Mossel Bay?” Or “What’s wrong with you?” What astonishes me is that these responses are coming from locals. Some even call me crazy. To those I want to say: As a son of God, external matters are never a requirement for inner happiness. As a son of God, I do not allow the atmosphere to change me, but I change the atmosphere. As a son of God, I can also testify like Paul in Galatians 2:20 in the Passion Translation: “My old identity has been co-crucified with Messiah and no longer lives; for the nails of his cross crucified me with him. And now the essence of this new is no longer mine, for the Anointed One lives his life through me – we live in union as one! My new life is empowered by the faith of the S...

Our Love Story - His & Her Version - Laetitia Zeeman & Stephanus van Schalkwyk

Image
HER VERSION written by Laetitia Zeeman The first thing that comes to mind when I think about Stephanus, is “RESPECT”. I met Stephanus in 1985.  I was the new kid in school and Stephanus was on the student council. We ended up sitting next to each other in the Bible Studies class.  I remember us swopping seats at some stage because me being left-handed made him bump into my arm the whole time while writing.  That led to ending up together during school brakes.  We were just two loners ending up together, sitting on a small wall next to the headmaster’s office where Stephanus was doing his student council supervision. Not only did he accompany me to our matric dance in 1986 but if it were not for Stephanus, I would not have passed matric.  Stephanus spent hours of his time, in my matric year, to find ways to help me study and memorize information.  He is still a great teacher.  He also made numerous mugs of coffee to keep me awake while studyin...
